See that fire starter? I made it…we all learned how at our Camp’s Spring Expo and my Troop Camp training.  I didn’t get a chance to have the girls make any but will next time for sure they are super easy.  Toilet paper roll filled with dryer lint, closed the ends and poured old candle wax all over it, tied a piece of twine around it so it had a wick and done.  I made about a dozen in less than 30 minutes.

I got there first since we really didn’t have a whole lot of time I wanted to start the fire and be ready to make hot dogs when they all got there.  We went over the rules at our meetings, a few girls forgot as soon as they got there.  No Running at Camp! (those would be the girls in pink who are MY daughters so proud LOL).  Once a gentle reminder was given they remembered and there was no running at camp (-:  

While we waited for everyone to arrive we made good old GORP for the hungry Daisy girls. It wasn’t long before our GORP was gone so next time we will double it. To keep the cost down we had a list of what girls are to bring here is our list and it worked out pretty great I would only cut back on the s’mores if you don’t have a lot of girls.

We had our Juniors and second year Brownies make the hot dogs for everyone they were perfect!

I was impressed with all the girls and how they hung out at the camp fire, no worries with these ones they kept on eye on the Daisies and followed all the camp fire rules.

Once the Leaders got in there the girls were already eating  s’mores because who doesn’t make s’mores at camp!

It had gotten dark pretty quick the troop arrived at 4:00 but because it was overcast and November that only gave us an hour of daylight. 

Since it was a cabin and not tent we didn’t wash our dishes the old camp way we went ahead and did them in the kitchen.   My daughter volunteered funny how at camp it’s fun but not at home!

We planned on hiking the next day so we made out very own walking sticks we brought all our left over duck tap from making the buckets and bought large dowel rods at Lowes.  They were about $4.00 a piece but perfect. The whole time we were making these we kept hearing sounds from the corner where all the cots were.  I figured it was just a mouse it was squeeky and annoying but we are in the woods so mice happen that is why we have all our things in the buckets right? Bugs and rodents.  We didn’t announce it and kept it between us adults the girls were too loud, talking and laughing to even notice.

None of the girls had trouble or needed much help only cutting the duck tape.  They loved it! Each made their own design and were told after every hike with or without the troop to write the date and where they hiked on the stick.  A great way to get families involved in getting out there.   Still Squeek Squeek….

I am very grateful for my co-leader and Troop Mom for coming along they were such a huge help.

Since we were stuck inside most the time we were prepared! We made the old fashioned sandpaper and crayon tshirts and they were crafty!

I can say these were the best ideas for our first overnight in a cabin couldn’t do this in a tent!

I made sure to bring every broken crayon I had because after this they would be broken you really have to push down hard for it to work.

But the outcome is awesome! (unless like me you accidentally made a 3 backwards maybe no one will notice LOL)

Lucky for us we had basic first aid training ! We only had one injury remember when I stated in the beginning of the post no running at camp?  Well….my little Daisy done went and forgot and fell getting a cut on her hand.  Our other Daisy Kylee went immediately to her first aid kit, wiped it with a cleaning pad and put a band aid on it.  ❤  Later Ms. Melissa had to add the gauze jut to keep the band aid on and to make it look WAY worse than it was LOL~

Have I mentioned our mascot went too?  Our Brownie Kiara made her, her own tent out of duck tape (-: she even brought her a pillow and sleeping bag.

Once it was 10:00 I put on the Disney Movie Den Brother, just to settle the girls down.  They all used their jar lanterns so all we heard for the next thirty or so minutes was clanging and falling jars BUT none broke so yeah!

After about an hour it was lights out we left a small light on in the kitchen so they could find their way to the bathroom…because that happened about 50 times usually the same girl LOL Once it was dark and quiet…..remember that mouse we kept hearing.  It stopped and FLEW out that was no mouse my friend but a friendly BAT.  I jumped up and turned on lights it just flew around for a minute and then to the fireplace.  My Co-Leader used this as a learning opportunity to get the girls calmed down you can imagine the screaming.   She quickly Googled bats and got them involved in guessing what kind it was and what they actually eat.  After squashing the Vampire Bat theory all was well (-: 

 

While Ms Erin was talking to the girls I looked over and I thought my Troop Mom would die.  We didn’t see it again for a few minutes so we left one light on and the girls went back to sleep.  Well all but one girl My Troop Mom was on bat patrol all night LOL did not sleep a wink I kept looking over at her;  if I heard a noise and at one point sat up only to almost get sideswiped by the bat.  She looked at me and said “he is back and he brought a friend a BIG friend” They eventually left again but Ms Melissa did not sleep until she went home!

In the morning I got up and started the breakfast.  It was pouring rain. DANG.

We ate eggs, sausage, toast and fruit.  Grapes as you can see (-:

We took a group shot while we waited for it to slow down outside, we really wanted to use our walking sticks.

Even though it was wet outside it wasn’t very chilly that was nice!

We walked probably a half hour before we had to get all cleaned up and packed to go.

but not before some photo ops (Leaders Daughters minus one)  COME ON! 

They loved the woods but it was SO muddy, I felt guilty putting them in their parents cars .  But I guess that’s camp!

We had a blast for our first overnight and can not wait for Spring when we will be going a little farther than Camp Ken Jockety and staying for a whole weekend.  We can not wait!
