Two Peas and Indian Run Falls

Standard
Two Peas and Indian Run Falls

It all started with a can we have a sleepover?????….and honestly I get this every weekend it was no shock LOL.  I normally would say clean your room and sure…only the weather had been so nice I wanted to go hiking the next day so I said no because they would have to leave early the next day and that’s no fun……So um yeah they had a sleepover….. I am a pushover this has been proven in so many ways but this was a good one I just took them all!

Phoebe was the first one up that Sunday so we made omelets and toast for the girls her sister loves to bake she loves to cook.  When they are old enough maybe I won’t have too *fingers crossed.

We packed up some water, apples and granola bars and set off to Dublin we hadn’t been to this one so we get to check that off our list of parks.

img_4883

It was a smaller park than we have been to but we found some amazing things while we walked.

Of course the girls felt the need…..OH…!

img_4848

Then the falls as usual Phoebe wanted to get in….it’s not that warm!  Py and I have a near death count for Phoebe on all our outdoor adventures the highest was at Hocking Hills with 30 something….this is where  she wants to do something that could potentially lead to very bad things.  Such as jumping over the gate to the falls….Near Death Count 1

img_4809

There was a longer trail we could have taken but they were getting antsy and since I didn’t pack lunches only snacks …..we just stayed a couple hours.

img_4865img_4859img_4855

We walked to the other side of the park which was an old cemetery and this http://dublinohiousa.gov/grounds-of-remembrance/  The Grounds of Remembrance.  The girls paid their respects we talked about what it meant went back then looked at the old grave stones.

Some pics on the walk back to the car…..

I’d claim them all ~ I think they had fun they even let me take pictures so yeah!

img_4921

As great as this park was as I mentioned before it was smaller and no kids playing area so we went over to Hilliard to Homestead Park.

 Let those kids run free!

So as much I we hate global warming the nice days were very much welcomed.  This Mom needs to be outside and these kids all need to run around and not be on their devices all the time!   I can’t wait for the next place and maybe we will have more friends come……let me know if you’d love to come along!

Two Peas and Highbanks Metro Park

Standard

Wanting to keep hiking and visit new parks we visited Highbanks Metro Park it had a ton of trails to hit so we were pretty excited, plus the girls love the natural playgrounds and they had one!

We went to the nature center first just to check it out and grab a map.  Outside the building they had an Eagles Nest that they encouraged you too add too…..it was all good and well until the littlest pea ran up to it and got stabbed in the leg…..needless to say she said they can build it themselves and ran off to climb the fallen branches.

Once the band aid was put on the stab wound we ran inside to get the map, it was pretty amazing inside too….

They had insects, snakes, fish and so much information about the parks and the girls could just go no need to keep saying don’t touch that because it was all there to touch and explore.

After about 30 minutes though it was time to start hiking, we went out the back door and saw a baby raccoon but he was so fast we didn’t get a picture….we did see about 40 people hunting Pokemon though it was kind of funny that they are looking for these things on their phones not once looking up to see the real animals right in front of them….luckily no one walked into the bee hive~ BZZZZZZ

img_3648

I feel so lucky sometimes that my daughters can appreciate nature and visiting these parks (stay tunes for a blog post later this month about a day we DID NOT appreciate nature while camping LOL!)

img_3660img_3657

Another 90 degree weather day ….. we didn’t care lets find that natural playground!

They made a tepee ( Pyper and I helped after Phoebe got stuck in this position! )

No pictures were taken of us all climbing the trees though, no hands to hold the phone and according to the girls I don;t have to take pictures of everything….which is untrue but whatever….so here’s more!

img_3666img_3663

It was seriously a beautiful day just look at those clouds!  We made our way to the creek Phoebe’s favorite part….until we saw a bazillion mosquitoes~

img_3826

Needless to say we stuck to the trails …..

Two Peas and a Camera

Two Peas and a Camera

The girls and I love taking pictures of just about everything and on this day we wanted to be outside in the beautiful weather taking pictures at the Topiary Park downtown.

So we grabbed the back pack with snacks, the red & white sheet and took off again.

It was a Saturday where they had an event happening they called it

PBJ & Jazz Family Concert Series

Every Saturday in the summer~

You can see what other events they offer here: http://www.topiarypark.org/events.html

img_3872

We had parked around the block and walked over passing some amazing buildings that they would take pictures of on our way back.

It didn’t take long for Pyper to jump right in taking pictures of the water features.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So we walked around to the area without all the kids but could still hear the music, there were people walking and talking, a cute couple on a date having a picnic and even a table with people from the city doing crafts with the tiny kids.  Pyper saw a tree and immediately ran to take pictures, she even caught me on the outside watching her take pictures inside the leaves.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I am not a fan of how I look (turns out there are no make me look younger and slimmer filters on this camera LOL on another note I am trying to work out and moisturize bahahaha) but you can see Phoebe behind me on our striped sheet in the perfect spot just taking in all the people, ducks and topiary creations around her waiting for her turn with the camera.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Of course we had to take a selfie inside the tree!

img_3937

She caught us observing her photography techniques 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

She might have caught me taking her picture too ~

img_3850

Pyper’s pics:

Phoebe waited OH SO PATIENTLY but she went second because lets face it we knew she wouldn’t be giving the camera back to sis so easily~ !

img_3945

Phoebe focused on the topiaries, flowers and the signs she absolutely loves this can’t wait to do this again with the fall leaves.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had to keep an eye on her but she wanted space….just like her sister she caught me watching…..but that’s my job!

img_3958img_3961

Phoebe’s pics:

My turn! I thought it was a great day to get pics of the girls too they looked beautiful personalities shining through with what they decided to wear out that day.

The doll on the other hand …. “Phoebe Can I take a few without your doll?”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

yep

We moved over to the other side and got silly it was almost 90 degrees and we had been here for about four hours they might have been getting tired, so we busted out the snacks and chilled under a tree 🙂

As you all know we are Girl Scouts maybe not your typical Scouts but Scouts none the less meaning we bring the back pack it has the trusty first aid kit and ice packs just in case!  Well the ice packs come in super handy when the girls get super hot. We were glistening that day that’s for sure.

img_3977

Phoebe laid comfortably under the tree and actually took some pretty amazing shots….

Some randoms who ever wasn’t in it took it 🙂 !

On our way back to the car shenanigans !~

We took so many pictures I am going to make the girls books so they can look at all the great pictures they took and they can only get better!

Awesome Possoms! Troop 1391 Goes Camping part 2

Standard

See that fire starter? I made it…we all learned how at our Camp’s Spring Expo and my Troop Camp training.  I didn’t get a chance to have the girls make any but will next time for sure they are super easy.  Toilet paper roll filled with dryer lint, closed the ends and poured old candle wax all over it, tied a piece of twine around it so it had a wick and done.  I made about a dozen in less than 30 minutes.

wpid-IMAG1065.jpg

I got there first since we really didn’t have a whole lot of time I wanted to start the fire and be ready to make hot dogs when they all got there.  We went over the rules at our meetings, a few girls forgot as soon as they got there.  No Running at Camp! (those would be the girls in pink who are MY daughters so proud LOL).  Once a gentle reminder was given they remembered and there was no running at camp (-:

wpid-IMAG1066.jpg

While we waited for everyone to arrive we made good old GORP for the hungry Daisy girls. It wasn’t long before our GORP was gone so next time we will double it. To keep the cost down we had a list of what girls are to bring here is our list and it worked out pretty great I would only cut back on the s’mores if you don’t have a lot of girls.

FOOD LIST and   CAMP OUT MENU .

wpid-IMAG1070.jpg

We had our Juniors and second year Brownies make the hot dogs for everyone they were perfect!

DSC08657

I was impressed with all the girls and how they hung out at the camp fire, no worries with these ones they kept on eye on the Daisies and followed all the camp fire rules.

wpid-IMAG1077.jpg

Once the Leaders got in there the girls were already eating  s’mores because who doesn’t make s’mores at camp!

DSC08660

It had gotten dark pretty quick the troop arrived at 4:00 but because it was overcast and November that only gave us an hour of daylight.

DSC08662

Since it was a cabin and not tent we didn’t wash our dishes the old camp way we went ahead and did them in the kitchen.   My daughter volunteered funny how at camp it’s fun but not at home!

wpid-IMAG1085.jpg

We planned on hiking the next day so we made out very own walking sticks we brought all our left over duck tap from making the buckets and bought large dowel rods at Lowes.  They were about $4.00 a piece but perfect. The whole time we were making these we kept hearing sounds from the corner where all the cots were.  I figured it was just a mouse it was squeeky and annoying but we are in the woods so mice happen that is why we have all our things in the buckets right? Bugs and rodents.  We didn’t announce it and kept it between us adults the girls were too loud, talking and laughing to even notice.

wpid-IMAG1086.jpg

None of the girls had trouble or needed much help only cutting the duck tape.  They loved it! Each made their own design and were told after every hike with or without the troop to write the date and where they hiked on the stick.  A great way to get families involved in getting out there.   Still Squeek Squeek….

wpid-IMAG1089.jpg

I am very grateful for my co-leader and Troop Mom for coming along they were such a huge help.

DSC08672

There’s those proud Girl Scouts with their perfect walking sticks!

DSC08677

Since we were stuck inside most the time we were prepared! We made the old fashioned sandpaper and crayon tshirts and they were crafty!

wpid-IMAG1114.jpg

I can say these were the best ideas for our first overnight in a cabin couldn’t do this in a tent!

wpid-IMAG1147.jpg

I made sure to bring every broken crayon I had because after this they would be broken you really have to push down hard for it to work.

wpid-IMAG1113.jpg

But the outcome is awesome! (unless like me you accidentally made a 3 backwards maybe no one will notice LOL)

IMAG0674

Lucky for us we had basic first aid training ! We only had one injury remember when I stated in the beginning of the post no running at camp?  Well….my little Daisy done went and forgot and fell getting a cut on her hand.  Our other Daisy Kylee went immediately to her first aid kit, wiped it with a cleaning pad and put a band aid on it.  ❤  Later Ms. Melissa had to add the gauze jut to keep the band aid on and to make it look WAY worse than it was LOL~

wpid-IMAG1115.jpg

Have I mentioned our mascot went too?  Our Brownie Kiara made her, her own tent out of duck tape (-: she even brought her a pillow and sleeping bag.

wpid-IMAG1244.jpg

Once it was 10:00 I put on the Disney Movie Den Brother, just to settle the girls down.  They all used their jar lanterns so all we heard for the next thirty or so minutes was clanging and falling jars BUT none broke so yeah!

wpid-IMAG1125.jpgAfter about an hour it was lights out we left a small light on in the kitchen so they could find their way to the bathroom…because that happened about 50 times usually the same girl LOL Once it was dark and quiet…..remember that mouse we kept hearing.  It stopped and FLEW out that was no mouse my friend but a friendly BAT.  I jumped up and turned on lights it just flew around for a minute and then to the fireplace.  My Co-Leader used this as a learning opportunity to get the girls calmed down you can imagine the screaming.   She quickly Googled bats and got them involved in guessing what kind it was and what they actually eat.  After squashing the Vampire Bat theory all was well (-:

While Ms Erin was talking to the girls I looked over and I thought my Troop Mom would die.  We didn’t see it again for a few minutes so we left one light on and the girls went back to sleep.  Well all but one girl My Troop Mom was on bat patrol all night LOL did not sleep a wink I kept looking over at her;  if I heard a noise and at one point sat up only to almost get sideswiped by the bat.  She looked at me and said “he is back and he brought a friend a BIG friend” They eventually left again but Ms Melissa did not sleep until she went home!

wpid-IMAG1127.jpg

In the morning I got up and started the breakfast.  It was pouring rain. DANG.

wpid-IMAG1131.jpg

We ate eggs, sausage, toast and fruit.  Grapes as you can see (-:

wpid-IMAG1143.jpg

We took a group shot while we waited for it to slow down outside, we really wanted to use our walking sticks.

wpid-IMAG1151.jpg

Even though it was wet outside it wasn’t very chilly that was nice!

wpid-IMAG1187.jpg

We walked probably a half hour before we had to get all cleaned up and packed to go.

wpid-IMAG1193.jpg

but not before some photo ops (Leaders Daughters minus one)  COME ON!

wpid-IMAG1213.jpg

They loved the woods but it was SO muddy, I felt guilty putting them in their parents cars .  But I guess that’s camp!

wpid-IMAG1226.jpg

A quick walk back to the cabin.

wpid-IMAG1234.jpg

Where we waited on the parents to pick up.  This is my favorite picture for some reason (-:

wpid-IMAG1236.jpg

Last minute clean up with Ms Erin and Pyper.

wpid-IMAG1241.jpg

And the ride home! Some little Daisy had way too much fun!~

wpid-IMAG1248.jpg

We had a blast for our first overnight and can not wait for Spring when we will be going a little farther than Camp Ken Jockety and staying for a whole weekend.  We can not wait!

Just in case you need a template or some ideas here is what I sent home in packets along with the food list to the parents.   I also sent info on where we were staying and how to get to the cabin, where to park etc etc.

Before our Troop camp out
