Making Magic with the Littlest Pea

Home without the Oldest Pea so what could the Pheebs and I get ourselves into???

~~~We made Harry Potter Wands~~~
We just Googled how to and saw SO many tutorials!  All pretty great, some easy, some so detailed that it was cool to watch but a little too hard for the 9yr old.  The easier tutorials were simply chop sticks, hot glue gun, and paint ….some added glitter so of course we did too~
I made the first one and had her watch told her not to touch the glue or the end because of the burn factor and then let her go.  Can we just look at that sheer determination and not the unbrushed hair bahaha !
After the glue was wrapped around the chopstick she treated it like a troll
Because we didn’t want a flat side to the wand we let them dry like this in the glitter jar:
IMG_4109
The dry pretty quickly and if you don’t like how it turned out you can peel it off and start again.
IMG_4111
Then once they are dry you do the paint and glitter.
Our creations:
And one special wand for one special person.
The week we made the wands was also Teacher Appreciation Week so she made her teacher one and then made her a sweet painting to match.
Add glitter!
We hope she liked it!
We hope you like this post and let us know if you made wands and how you did it !
Girl Scout Walk About – Lanyards 2017!
UPDATED FOR 2017 LBB COOKIES (working on ABC hope to have up this week)!
Here is a short tutorial on how I made ours….
5 yards of thick cos grain ribbon made 18 lanyards, it could make more or less depending on how long you make yours.
IMAG2767
I had gotten a bag of these at a yard sale for a dollar I like using these for the lanyard clip than the two-part way you see a lot online.  Lace this through the ribbon first.
IMAG2769
Then sew the ribbon together.  I sewed it three times across because the girls will pull on them I am sure.
IMAG2770
I printed out the cookie variety and the price cheat sheet and stuck them to a green paper to match the ribbon.
IMAG2818
Once I cut them out I laminated them and cut the out again with my helper…
 (who was really watching Bo on the Go)
IMAG2819
Punched a hole with the handy dandy crop-o-dile ( oh my she was little back then)
IMAG2836
And hooked the to the lanyards!
IMAG2793
This is not an original idea I saw it on pinterest and I would mention the blog it came from but there wasn’t an attached author! But if you would like to see that one here is the pin link (-:  http://pinterest.com/pin/64035625923800679/
Lessons in Gram’s Kitchen
It all started with a trip to the Grove City Farmers Market (one of the best around !)
WP_20140712_005
We picked the perfect zucchini…
WP_20140712_007
 And took it to Pap Pap’s house the next day!  I thought I grabbed everything I needed to make it easy.  But I forgot my shredder!  Now Gram’s used her fancy attachment to her mixer, I am not that cool.  So the hunt was on there had to be a regular shredder in that house somewhere…….then I saw it a box with pics of vegetables all covered in dust.  Eureka! A shredder!
WP_20140713_005
It was still in the original box never opened, it was perfect and worked so well!
So I originally intended on whipping up some zucchini bread real quick so Gramps could have a loaf, he loves my zucchini bread.   Next thing I know the peas where taking over!  All I had to do was talk them through it all.
The were learning to bake zucchini bread in Grams kitchen and Pyper couldn’t be any more happy.  She cooked with Gram every chance she got in this kitchen and even after 5 years remembers every time.
Today was special and even though Phoebe was 1 when she passed away, this gave her a little bit of Gram that she never had the opportunity to  share with her.
WP_20140713_009
  I careful showed her how to peel a vegetable and then shred it, it took barely any instruction Py’s dream is to be a baker so she just dove into this.
WP_20140713_021
 Then showed Phoebe how to crush the pecans, she did so well!
WP_20140713_025
 It took a while longer than usual but they were so proud (-:
WP_20140713_020
  The pecans were crushed a little faster than the shredding of the zucchini (-:
WP_20140713_037
 Finally they were able to add the other ingredients.
WP_20140713_039
 Flour flour flour!
WP_20140713_048
Cinnamon and my cousins Denise’s home-made vanilla extract
WP_20140713_043
  Hey how about some bananas ??? YES! time to smash !
WP_20140713_077
 Keep smashing there sis….
wp_20140713_069
 Add it to the mix….
WP_20140713_084
 And let Pyper mix it all
WP_20140713_088
 While Phoebe sprayed the loaf pans (-: maybe a little too much LOL those loaves were never gonna stick!
WP_20140713_102 WP_20140713_098
 Yeah…a little too much maybe….
WP_20140713_105
 Done and read to put in the pans while one patiently waits
WP_20140713_106
 Almost ready to bake!
WP_20140713_116
 It got pretty messy ! they were happy to clean themselves up but you won’t see pictures of them cleaning the kitchen!
WP_20140713_123
 One hour in here….
WP_20140713_126
  45 minutes for the mini loaf!
wp_20140713_131
 We served it warm, it’s the only way!   Now getting a good picture is never easy….take one…(phoebe!!)
WP_20140713_134
 Take  two….uh good enough (-: Hope you loved the bread Gramps because the girls loved making it for you!
WP_20140713_133
 Here is the recipe only we added three smashed bananas and a cup of chopped pecans (-:
WP_20140713_138
 Happy baking!!
Spring Fever – Setting up a Garden Journal
Oh I have caught Spring Fever for sure!
I have gardening and yard work on the brain, I can not wait for the weather to break and the sun to shine so we can start planting.  But until then I will start planning.  And I can’t plan without an awesome Garden Journal/Smash Book.
So I made one that I love (even made my friend Deb one too so we can compare notes she is my garden guru after all)
Here is mine: It’s pretty simple just some scrapbook paper and stickers covering a composition notebook like this one
And some matching ribbon of course (-:
IMAG2566
Some pictures of my peas in the front because they are so darn cute!
IMAG2577
I clipped the seed packets to the front so I know what I liked from previous years I may tape them on the pages soon to make it easier to see them.
IMAG2567
Some articles I liked in magazines so I could recycle what I did not need
IMAG2569
A map that shows when to plant is always good and an envelope in the back for receipts and whatnot.
image
Covered the back with more scrap paper and there you have it now I can daydream and plan!
It might not be spring yet but I am sure ready!  I will just keep on planning (-:
Playroom Redo Part 3 – Seating
Seating!
Now you can always go buy benches and bean bags etc.  But look around your house I bet you have something you can transform.  I saw these seats on Pinterest, yes I am an addict but I have learned and made so much from other people’s brilliant ideas!
So I looked around the house then the garage and found these old mismatched crates just like on Pinterest.  SO I got out my trusty Krylon spray paint.
IMAG6136 - CopyI used a very thick chip board from the back of one of the poster frames I broke, good thing I didn’t throw that away. I did go to JoAnne fabrics for padding it was pretty inexpensive maybe $5.00.  I had the best material that I ordered off of Etsy and some from the thrift store too!  I merely stapled it to the chipboard.
IMAG6090 - CopyI made a bench too!
IMAG6149 - CopyThen I tied the top down making sure it wasn’t on the open end or the girls could fall in!
Phoebe LOVED it!
IMAG6181 - CopyIMAG6186So did Puffy (-:
I put the single seat by the Wardrobe Section (-:  Then there was the PINK computer chair yikes!  It was practically new so I wanted it to match~! So I recovered it.
I took it apart….
IMAG6355 - Copyand got the trusty staple gun out again…
IMAG6359 - CopyI made sure it was pretty tight so nothing would get caught on the material when someone sat in it.  I love this popcorn material.
IMAG6363Once again Puffy loved it…
IMAG6368Then I saw those bright flowery pillows …. re-covered!
IMAG0198 - CopyAdded one to the bench that holds the books ….
IMAG2522
Pete likes this one!  (Found that red wood basket there at the thrift shop $2!)
Added a big floor pillow to the other hand made bench…
IMAG9822And again Puffy was breaking it in…..maybe this isn’t a playroom but a cat room SHEESH!
