Troop 1391’s Investiture, Bridging and Re-Dedication Ceremony 2013

If you are a regular reader of my blog you know just how disappointed I was with the program part of our ceremony last year, therefore this year I was on a mission.  I searched Pinterest for ideas and saw the color scheme My Co-Leader and I love! Then the hard part LOL  I sat and thought about everything….Our Troop has three levels and we have new girls I saw nothing that appealed to us in a traditional ceremony.  Therefore, we had a Scout’s own or Leader’s own either way you look at it, it embodied everything our Troop is.

THE PROGRAM

When I scripted the program I really wanted to showcase each of the levels and what they had accomplished so far. So for the Junior’s and their Road to the Bronze I had them read an excerpt from their Anti-Bullying Campaign speech. ( I will blog more about that soon!)  Our Brownie’s would showcase their  WOW Journey by telling their families how they have saved on water and showed pictures of how they would save water.  I would introduce the Juniors having worked with them on this journey and Ms. Erin would introduce the Brownies as she worked with them. Our new Daisies were super good waiting (-:

Next, I had Ms Erin call the girls to Re-Dedicate, I called the girls to Bridge (My 4th grade Pea included!) and as much as I wanted to call over the new Scouts I had Ms Erin do it, my youngest Pea was among the three and I would have lost it…that being said I will admit I read through a script a million times that I wrote for the whole program, and I still read it off the paper.   NERVES!

Once this was done, we called over the girls who where Re-Dedicating, gave them their patches and had them move over to the Friendship Circle, the same with the girls who Bridged and finally the girls who Invested.

DSCN0100

Since I had a new Co-Leader this she Invested too, the Leaders then joined the circle and sang the whole Make New Friends song not the short one we do in the meetings!

DSCN0104

Then we had the girls read out loud what they loved most about Girl Scouts I had them write this out along with a picture of themselves in uniform at one of the meetings.  I taped them together so they could show the picture while they read, after the were done they took the picture to their family, gave hugs and came back.

DSCN0108

To finish up the program we had some announcements then we recited the law and the pledge all together instead of individually when we invested etc…. The Program went really well! We were so busy with planning for camp that we literally had one meeting to get the girls with the program, where to stand, when to speak etc, etc.  But the way I planned it if they listened to what we said they would be perfect, I literally put instruction to them into what I was saying to the families. ( I stuttered and almost cried but they all got it LOL)

THE DECORATIONS

I used a lot of the print outs from http://www.birdsparty.com/ she was nice enough to create a pink and green Girl Scout theme that my co-leader and I fell in love with!

We used all green, pink and white table clothes to match then I used Bird’s creations to make photo blocks (from Oriental Trading Co) I used her print out for two sides, used the same pink, green and white card stock and printed out our girls names and the occasion for the other two sides, added ribbon and that is what was used as center pieces.  I had taken pictures when the weather was nice and we were meeting at the park, (our Daisies got their own since they were not in the troop yet) so we added those and that was the take home gift.

We put their patches that they had earned in little organza bags and used tags from Bird too!  We placed them in my girls Easter baskets that just happened to match!

DSCN0031

Now the most time spent on the decorations….I made posters to showcase almost everything we had done in 2013 for all the families to see.  I will be honest I did not sleep at all the night the night before the ceremony,  I made a ton of  posters and it took forever so you may want to start more than a day ahead of time (-: ! Here is just a few we were so lucky that the place had so many windows we put one poster in each one!  We even had our posters from the Booth sales we had to showcase the one we did win the Bling Your Booth Contest after all!

Fotor1230193637

We also made our own bridge I used the same flower pots from last years and put foam in them I spray painted dowell rods pink (in a snow storm yes that is dedication!) and I dyed rope with jello to make it pink, used card stock to make grass and constructed it at the party center.

I loved Bird’s Law and Promise print out as like others before I framed them for our table up front where us Leaders stood for the program.

DSCN0144

Last but not least I made the programs Program you can open it here if you would like to change things around and make it your own (: Just copy them onto two sided paper, or print out as two sided and fold in half add a ribbon if you like make it fancy!

DSCN0069

My Co-Leader loved the photo booth I did last year and wanted to do it again. So she got the cutest polka dot material and we used the removable hooks and put it on the closet door.  I brought last years props, and she made brand new ones for the girls.  It’s always fun! (our bat is an homage to our camp out)!

THE FOOD

We had asked that our parents bring two dozen cookies, we had a sign up sheet to ensure we didn’t get nothing but chocolate chip LOL !  We made sure the ceremony was not at lunch time we made it at 2:30 so that the girls would have already eaten.

DSCN0058

I even tried to make one of those big cookies! (this was taken before the parents got there we had plenty (:

Here is just a few more pictures of where we had it, The Eagle Pavilion at Rotary Lake it was snowy and beautiful!

Now to start thinking about 2014!

Troop 1391’s First Bridging Ceremony

postcard 3

I had planned for months and was so excited for our Bridging Ceremony.  We had rented out a hall at one of our local parks and I did soooo much research on Bridging, Re-Dedication and Investiture Ceremonies.  Not to mention I racked my brain with fun things to do for the girls and their families.  My co-leader had just had a baby girl and I needed to make this as easy for her as possible so I jumped in.

I kept seeing where the rainbow was the thing to do for a bridging ceremony that’s all it took…..everything rainbow!!

I knew from the get go I would need something at the tables to occupy the younger siblings most my girls had them LOL!  I used Oriental Trading company for a lot of the decorations and what nots.  Lets just say I am glad I didn’t trade in the Edge for my Sonata back then or this couldn’t have happened.

I found rainbow crayons and I made little rainbow crayon holders and printed out free girl scout coloring pages from anywhere I could. I just Googled free girl scout coloring pages and BOOM there they were.

I also made for the tables lollipop flowers in a pot I used more felt and ribbon and SO wish I got better pictures!

Added grass

then the lollipops!

???????????????????????????????

Now since this was our first investiture, re-dedication and bridging ceremony I will add this to my post ….. full disclosure I was clueless how to do the actual ceremony part.  I read every blog, book and article on what other troops did.  That’s when I saw that we could do a Scouts own for this and well I won’t sugar coat it it was awful…..we had the brownies fly up to junior and walk over this bridge we borrowed from our service unit and sang the friendship song.  We called names out and pinned the re-dedication girls handed out patches and well…..took pictures and it literally lasted one hour and 15 minutes and that was with the families eating and talking.  It was horrible.  I blame myself and this year that will not happen, simple decorations and food more on the ceremony.  But I did do a kick butt job on the decorations and take home goodies (-: !

Here are a few shots of the short and just plain not put together ceremony…I even made these for the girls to hold….it made no sense what so ever Oh I can not wait to redeem myself this year LOL

I had them all read a line from a poem that part worked out pretty well! (the socks with that dress on my daughter NOT so much)

1055

Here is the poem :

I Am A Girl Scout
I am sunshine...the sparkle of merriment in the eyes of my youth.
I am a doorway out of the commonplace into a new, exciting experience.
I am a purpose-for-life, which will make the later years of the girls I love rewarding.
I am noise... and a silence with warmth in it.
I am laughter...and a quiet revolution, which seeks the comfort of a listener.
I am energy and a touch of living service.
I am youth and the slowly emerging habits that make matured experience worthy
I am the today and tomorrow that is being shaped.
I am habits, ideals, ways of living, confirmed attitudes in the souls of youth.
I am the giver of gifts that fall not away, that time will not quench, that riches will not deceive.
I am a home to which a heart can unfold.
I am a force that holds you near to each other no matter how different people are.
I am a spirit that forever sings within your heart.
I am love - deep, sincere, devoted love.
I am part of you - for though your feet may pass my door, in my memory you will live eternally.

I am a Girl Scout.

Now back to what I did do well !

I wanted a photo booth so I made all the props and My co-leader at the time Abby hung all the streamers on the wall for a back drop. I didn’t get a good angle HECK I didn’t get any pictures but this and one other.  I had my now co-leaders husband act as photographer and I begged but only got a few from the parents.

IMAG1124

My little ginger headed Brownie was quite fond of the mustache (-:

I also bought from oriental trading these key chains all the kids who came could make for their parents my daughters was a little less of a rainbow and more like a colorful chain LOL ~

wpid-IMAG8754.jpg

My neighbors husband who had a daughter in the troop at the time made the cake I saw one on pinterest I loved and this cake genius made it even as his step daughter was too sick to be there!   (as for the had been in the troop yes this is a late post and sadly 4 of the girls dropped out and yes I have taken it hard )-:  but we have more coming!)

1070

And because we are Girl Scouts when we realized we didn;t have a knife to cut the cake our GS Mom Jennifer used dental floss!

DSC04531

The parents all signed up to bring the food which was great or we would have just had cake at this point we spend the troop funds on the rental of the center so we needed to save for anything else we wanted to do this year (like  COSI).

DSC04532

I covered big cans in felt and added a rainbow touch for the forks and spoons to be held

IMAG0983

And I knew that I wanted the girls to have a rainbow colored candy bar so I tried my best! Not as awesome as the ones I have seen but as long as they got the candy I don’t think the girls even noticed.

1074

I even had little bags printed up for them to take their loot! (- ;

wpid-IMAG8752.jpg

My now co-leader Erin made this awesome poster that the girls all signed too!

1089

The girls had fun I do believe and our next one is just around the corner so planning begins…….NOW!
