Spring Break 2017 Wednesday

The Columbus Zoo! Since we just renewed our membership of course we had to go!

https://www.columbuszoo.org/home/visit

We had Gorp of course but hit Wendy’s before we went in. And this particular Wendy’s (6195 Glick Rd, Shawnee Hills, OH 43065) had the nicest staff, they even gave the peas free frostys and walked around to make sure everyone in there was happy. And yes frosty’s make the peas happy LOL

IMG_6437

The Zoo was busy but parking was pretty easy for lunch time 🙂

IMG_6549

We love this zoo and try to go any time we can with a membership it’s easy to just go a couple of hours or all day.   Bur what shall we do today?!?

IMG_6438

Hi Jungle Jack Hanna

IMG_6441

We always run through the house at Habitat Hollow seems aimed at littles but the peas still love it.

And we never miss the Polar Bears and Artic Foxes ….. but this time NO BEARS 😦 nm,

IMG_6500

Didn’t stop the little one from taking her doll and playing in the arctic playground!

WE caught the Bald Eagle in all his glory, and the Sloth Bear in all his lazy LOL~

Pheebs wanted to visit the Rhino and empty her pockets into the conservatory fund …..

Cougar cat …..

We visited the Asian Elephants and the Red Panda that snuck up a tree that we were watching but never turned around to say hi ….

We didn’t get to see all of the Zoo but hey that’s why it’s great to get a membership~ a little at a time no grumpy kids, no need to rush and if the animals aren’t out this time they will be next time!

By the way we were pretty excited to see that out favorite Arctic Fox was the cover animal for the map 🙂

So if you are ever in Columbus visit the Zoo!

Spring Break 2017 Tuesday

Next on our week of fun we were heading to Hocking Hills and if you follow this blog you know we are some GORP loving girls!  So we made a peanut butter mix for the trip on Monday night.  Not very colorful but very yummy!

Next morning we packed our lunches grabbed our hiking boots, the waters, the backpack full of everything we needed and took off to The Rock House.

img_60441.jpg

Just like wanting to hit all the central Ohio parks to hike, we want to hit all the Hocking Hills areas too.  The Rock House looked pretty amazing and well……it was.

Phoebe and I climbed everything we could BUT Py has a new-found fear of slipping  and instead chose to stay at the bottom and watch ….and start the Phoebe Near Death Count as we do when we go hiking.

Once we reached the inside of one of the rocks it was just as awesome as I had hoped.

Did  I mention it was dark in there??

We stayed in there awhile Phoebe and I climbed up and Py took some really bad pictures that will never be released  LOL !

IMG_6375

We climbed back out and found ourselves on the other side of the park! We had to walk a couple of miles up these kiddos were getting tired good thing we had GORP !

Once we got up that crazy hill we ate our lunch and Phoebe hid her gnome in places just to take fun pictures. She is creative that’s for sure!

After lunch we decided that we would head over to Old Man’s Cave it was still early and we still had GORP after all!

IMG_6298

I admit so far this part of the park is my favorite for the photo ops 🙂

At this point we have been here so often we knew just where to go, you know for more pics ….

When the girls got to far in front of me I yelled Stop……Hammer Time and yeah they did it….HAHA!

Check another fun day off the books it was time to get our muddy selves home.

Go here http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/hockinghills to map out your trip to HH ~

PS. Phoebe’s near death count 11 (if you read the blog you know Py freaks out every time Pheebs get fearless) and as she (Phoebe) is watching me type this blog tonight she would like to add that Pyper had a trip count of 5 or 7…… 🙂

Stay tuned for Spring Break 2017 Wednesday….the Zoo!

Spring Break 2017 Monday

I took the girls to get their first ever manicure …. the hardest part picking out a color Phoebe matched her dress with a sea-foam and Py picked Royal Blue  (I chose black I know shock….)

IMG_5968

The couple that worked on the girls nails were so sweet.

IMG_5975

It didn’t take very long for the nail cleaning, hand massages and paint….then the massive dryer !

IMG_5983

Then off to Beauty and the Beast!~

IMG_5987

Not gonna sugar coat…Phoebe was not a fan and was pretty vocal about it she eventually fell asleep (as she does when she is at the theater).

IMG_5992

We went to the Movie Tavern so we could have lunch at the same time and since it was closing in a few weeks we had to have one last time in the cool theater …. BTW we are super sad about it closing.

So yes, we had a laid back sort of day and I loved it, that night however………MAJOR storms and tornado warnings.

IMG_5962

Because we live in a house without a basement the tornado spot is the coat closet under the stairs…..well this mom had all her shoes in there.  Not much longer littlest pea chucked those out in the hall and hunkered down not to come out for THREE hours!

IMG_5955

We were really in no danger but this one was petrified so her sweet oldest sister and fur brother hung out with her until the coast was completely clear (: yes those are shoes in a mountain behind her…

IMG_5957

It was a fun and somewhat frightening day!

Spring Break 2017 Sunday

This year I took the week off with the girls to spend some major quality time doing all kinds of things.

I spent time figuring out just what we would do each day and as we did them they checked them off the list.  Sunday we went to a skating party to kick off our week of fun!  The oldest pea is not a fan but she tries, the littlest loves skating.

Of Course when you add nasty glowing crap all it has to be fun!

Have I mentioned how happy I am to be able to spend Spring Break with these two cuties ? !  and tell you ALL about the fun stuff you can do locally or near by too 🙂 then after the Spring Break 2017 post stay tuned….I will also do a behind the scenes with the peas….it isn’t all fun and smiles people it will be time to unload!~

We’ve lost her…..LOL

But not this one she could skate all day….

Or fall….

One last pic for the Mom (those faces!) …. now to tell you all about Monday!

Skate America in Grove City…….the little loves skating here the oldest likes the games 🙂

Two Peas and Indian Run Falls

It all started with a can we have a sleepover?????….and honestly I get this every weekend it was no shock LOL.  I normally would say clean your room and sure…only the weather had been so nice I wanted to go hiking the next day so I said no because they would have to leave early the next day and that’s no fun……So um yeah they had a sleepover….. I am a pushover this has been proven in so many ways but this was a good one I just took them all!

Phoebe was the first one up that Sunday so we made omelets and toast for the girls her sister loves to bake she loves to cook.  When they are old enough maybe I won’t have too *fingers crossed.

We packed up some water, apples and granola bars and set off to Dublin we hadn’t been to this one so we get to check that off our list of parks.

img_4883

It was a smaller park than we have been to but we found some amazing things while we walked.

Of course the girls felt the need…..OH…!

img_4848

Then the falls as usual Phoebe wanted to get in….it’s not that warm!  Py and I have a near death count for Phoebe on all our outdoor adventures the highest was at Hocking Hills with 30 something….this is where  she wants to do something that could potentially lead to very bad things.  Such as jumping over the gate to the falls….Near Death Count 1

img_4809

There was a longer trail we could have taken but they were getting antsy and since I didn’t pack lunches only snacks …..we just stayed a couple hours.

img_4865img_4859img_4855

We walked to the other side of the park which was an old cemetery and this http://dublinohiousa.gov/grounds-of-remembrance/  The Grounds of Remembrance.  The girls paid their respects we talked about what it meant went back then looked at the old grave stones.

Some pics on the walk back to the car…..

I’d claim them all ~ I think they had fun they even let me take pictures so yeah!

img_4921

As great as this park was as I mentioned before it was smaller and no kids playing area so we went over to Hilliard to Homestead Park.

 Let those kids run free!

So as much I we hate global warming the nice days were very much welcomed.  This Mom needs to be outside and these kids all need to run around and not be on their devices all the time!   I can’t wait for the next place and maybe we will have more friends come……let me know if you’d love to come along!

One Pea and the Arctic Lights Tour

The Artic Light Tour in case you didn’t know is this:  A bunch of YouTube, Musically, Snapchat whatever kids that have your kids so into them that they beg you to meet them …..tickets aren’t too bad parents are free so sure you go.   They serve alcohol for the parents and $5 half ice filled diet cokes for those who chose not to drink when you’re driving your kid…..needless to say the lady behind us in line with her daughter downed at least 9 Buds before the concert or whatever they call it even started.  Yeah I’m judging deal with it.

We do these things for our kids to make them happy, she was SO happy to meet one guy just one and they ran out of his sweatshirt and t shirt so she got the same white sweatshirt everyone else there ended up with (lucky kid that day his sweatshirts were everywhere). Thinking back I should have let her take a friend, next time for sure I’ll hold the coats and totally smuggle in a 20oz diet coke of my own….$5 ….seriously. BTW the beer was $3 way to go Bluestone.  Clearly you banked on the parents who did not want to be there.  Being her first one though, I’m glad it was just us.

Look at this face….my beautiful, brilliant, 12 year old spawn was SMILING with ME her Mom this was no small feat people!! I asked before we got out of the car can we take a selfie….she said yeah with people I want to.  OUCH  thanks….she took one anyway. I mean come on I don’t use crest white strips not to take a selfie every so often for real.

We waited in the freezing cold line for an hour…..I could not feel my toes we had VIP tickets not the Gold mind you but the ones where she could get in early (that barely happened) and the meet and greet. She didn’t know a few of the people she wanted to see 3 people I think 2 for sure (especially since  you got the damn sweatshirt with the wrong guys name)…..

img_2248

We got in and stood in line there for an hour it was like Disneyland for her the BMV for me but look ….smiling….and that’s not the guy she wanted to meet ….so you can imagine how nervous she was….

img_2434

Here he is and my phone was blurry I felt terrible it just went so fast!  She didn’t even care she was still happy.

Her day was complete but you gotta hit the one who’s sweatshirt I just paid $50 for because you should probably know who’s name you’re wearing what if he’s a jerk?

Luckily he wasn’t, they talked the others didn’t LOL !

After the line she grabbed my phone and sent all the pics to herself as any kid would do…

img_2290

She didn’t even care to stay for the whatever it was a chat amongst friends I don’t even know….but I told her we should at least watch some of it right?

It was basically a musically snapchat whatever the heck fest; they took pics with the crowd did a mannequin challenge ….. basically what every teenager does with their friends, no one sang or danced or had a comedy act……BUT she ……took another selfie with me and SMILED….!

img_2260-copyimg_2306

Then trying to be the cool mom her fave guy walked by and I got a pic….of the back of his head…..yep cool mom RIGHT HERE  I got the look ….but I tried LOL

So she did get in on the challenge and ran down to record a little on her phone she seemed genuinely happy.

I know it seems like this post is making fun, but the fact is we’ve been through a lot the last 2.5 years, the divorce was super hard on this one.  She’s like her mom, keeps it all in until she explodes…usually on me and that’s ok I just want her to be a kid, kids shouldn’t stress about things, they just shouldn’t.  So if taking her to this made her happy maybe she can realize she can be happy all the time if she just let go a little. (and I’m really not a bad guy)

Now…..back to our usual programming ….(BIG eye roll or iPhone roll ha!  I think that’s a mom joke)

They are Watching Us By Guest Blogger Sommer At TheGreenGlasses.com

Hello! I’m Sommer. I like to write things. Drink coffee. Ponder. Write more things. I am a practitioner of mindfulness. And I write about it. I am a mother. And I write about that too. I was also dealt quite the hand. A Royal Flush, with Anxiety and Depression as my Ace and King. I’ve managed, through exhaustive practice, to pull them out of the deck. I still have the cards though. I’ve accepted that. I also write about that. Enjoy the read, stop over at the blog if you dig it! I will go put on a pot of coffee!

They are Watching Us

By Sommer, TheGreenGlasses.com

I’m taking a cultural communications class. If we just focus on the amount of work associated with it then it would be an absolute nightmare. The content itself is intriguing though. Especially the content centered around ‘self’. Or rather family. The epicenter of culture is family. This is where we get the tools needed to go out in the world and build a house. Our values, our beliefs, our behaviors. If you think globally then you’re like “duh, Sommer” but what if you pull out your mega magnifying glass and really look at what you do, when you do it, and how you do it. It comes from family. My preferred choice of peanut butter, the way I fold laundry, make a bed, prepare a meal. At the very center of me is my family. I could examine myself for days; peering into my values, beliefs and behaviors.

sommer0

But what I am really thinking about are my kids. I am their family. I am their center. What I do now will carry forth into their adulthood. It might not manifest into a peanut butter choice. But it will manifest into how they view the world and its people. And it’s exciting! When I set off to have children this was NOT at the forefront of my mind. And honestly I don’t know what was driving that boat. I only knew I wanted to be a mother. But here I am. I have two growing minds at my fingertips. Every action and reaction is being cataloged by them. And to some, and even myself at times, this may seem like a massive and scary responsibility. But to me, it seems fun, an opportunity to help create two amazing adults who will navigate the world. I am not their only influence and I know that. But I am their mother.

sommer1.png

I’ve touched on it before. Do as I do rather than do as I say. They are watching us. They need to see us succeed and fail, be happy and sad, overcome challenges, have bad days and good. They need the full spectrum. They need to know we aren’t perfect. Because they aren’t perfect. And neither of us ever will be. They need to see us having a bad day but still being courteous to the cashier at the grocery store. They need to see us mad at them but still comforting them with affection. How we treat them and others will be the foundation for how they treat themselves and those they encounter.

Now would be a good time to step back, pause, and take a good long look at how you behave. How you speak of other people, of other religions, races, cultures, political beliefs. How you generalize. How you treat the janitor versus how you treat the CEO. Are you condemning those that are different than you? Or are you respecting the differences? Are you really listening to them while looking at your phone? Are you teaching them to learn by words or by actions? Are you placing value on possessions or moments? Are you allowing them to experience music that is different from your preference? Books? People? Are you trying new things together?

What will be their view of family? What does their cornerstone look like?  If you take a snapshot of today and examine it, what does it really look like? Do you need to adjust the sails? I know I do.

Are you fully aware of your audience when you rise upon your soapbox at the dinner table or while watching the news? If you are the epicenter of your children then know they are soaking it all up. All of it. Even your peanut butter choice.

I hope you enjoyed this post I reached out to Sommer to guest post as I read her blog constantly and resonate with so much that she talks about. Life is hard sometimes we just need to see (read) that we aren’t alone and how other humans handle it. So do yourselves a favor and follow https://thegreenglasses.com/  …… and thank you Sommer you can guest post any time you want!

Girl Scout Walk About – Lanyards 2017!

UPDATED FOR 2017 LBB COOKIES (working on ABC hope to have up this week)!

Originally posted 2013

It’s cookie season as you know, and we are getting ready for a lot of cookie sale opportunities!   With all of our booth ideas running through our heads we are also getting ready for Walk About Week.  For those that don’t know that is when we go door to door as a troop.  First thing I made for the girls is a lanyard to make it easier and faster when some one asks what kind and how much.

Here is a short tutorial on how I made ours….

5 yards of thick cos grain ribbon made 18 lanyards, it could make more or less depending on how long you make yours.

IMAG2767

I had gotten a bag of these at a yard sale for a dollar I like using these for the lanyard clip than the two-part way you see a lot online.  Lace this through the ribbon first.

IMAG2769

Then sew the ribbon together.  I sewed it three times across because the girls will pull on them I am sure.

IMAG2770

I printed out the cookie variety and the price cheat sheet and stuck them to a green paper to match the ribbon.

IMAG2818

Once I cut them out I laminated them and cut the out again with my helper…

IMAG2841

(who was really watching Bo on the Go)

IMAG2819

Punched a hole with the handy dandy crop-o-dile ( oh my she was little back then)

IMAG2836

And hooked the to the lanyards!

IMAG2793

This is not an original idea I saw it on pinterest and I would mention the blog it came from but there wasn’t an attached author! But if you would like to see that one here is the pin link (-:  http://pinterest.com/pin/64035625923800679/

That’s right a wooden watch!   And for people like me this is a miracle….I always want to wear a watch but for some reason I always end up with a green wrist or the strap falls apart.  That is not possible with this wonder watch not to mention how beautiful it is.  When I received it in the mail I never imagined it would come in such a lovely box.

img_1128-2

I have had so many compliments on this watch and trust me when I say I absolutely love it, it matches everything ~ (it’s the Frankie 35 by the way)

Not to mention for this girl who is constantly taking the peas out in the woods for solitude having my watch for…

img_1134

time instead of having to keep pulling out a phone is great and less distracting.
